The Initiative For Equal Rights

Introducing ‘Spotlight Women’ – a community for all women

The Initiative for Equal Rights (TIERs) is pleased to announce Spotlight Women, a monthly webinar whose aim is to highlight, analyze and discuss issues that affect every Nigerian woman and create a platform that will spur community action to achieve gender equality in Nigeria. We created Spotlight Women to provide a safe and inclusive space and support network for all women and identify and address biases that hinder inclusive advocacy for gender equality. Spotlight Women is based on the principle of intersectional feminism and recognizes the many-layered ways that women can experience oppression and discrimination.

The first edition of Spotlight Women is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, 23rd of April 2021, and is themed “Harassment-Free Online Spaces: A Priority for Nigerian Women and Girls”, in commemoration of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. It is centred around online gender-based harassment, its effects on women, and the ways everyone can contribute to creating harassment-free online spaces for Nigerian women.

The Initiative for Equal Rights (TIERs) is a Nigeria-based registered not-for-profit organisation working to create a society where human rights are guaranteed regardless of status, identity, orientation and affiliation. We exist to protect, uphold, and promote all Nigerians’ rights and humanity through advocacy, empowerment, education, and the provision of safe platforms of convergence.
